One of our favorite peep recipes from our Party For Your Peeps was this scrumptious Chocolate Sunflower Peep Cake. To start, you will make this peep cake using your favorite chocolate cake recipe (or box, no judgment here!). Personally, I love to use this recipe from Add a Pinch. A little trick I have learned: after the chocolate cake is baked I will freeze it overnight. It is much easier to frost a cake when it has been frozen and it also stays nice and moist. Next step is to frost the cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. You don’t have to worry too much about how it looks since the cake will be covered with peeps!
Once the cake has a good, thick layer of chocolate frosting on it you can begin to lay the peeps on the edge of the cake all the way around to form the sunflower petals. I used approximately 20 peeps to create the sunflower on this cake.
For decorating the center of the peep cake, I used Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chips and poured them until the frosting was well covered.
This recipe is such a fun and easy spring cake that you can bake with your child this Easter! They will love making it as much as they love eating it.
