Spring Break in Seattle was a week of nonstop rain. To battle the rainy day blues I took my daughter and her friend to Young Art. Young Art is a drop-off art studio where people of all ages are taught different sketching, coloring, and painting techniques through step-by-step instructions. My daughter had so much fun that she asked if she could have her birthday party there this year.
For the birthday party, my daughter chose pictures of a polar bear and a dog for the guests to choose from. Young Art provided two trained staff that walked the girls through how to draw, shade and paint the pictures. It was so fun to see the girl’s distinct creativity.
After the art lesson we headed back to our house to continue the celebration.
To decorate I used a white ruffled shower curtain as a backdrop. My friend Lauren helped me create a pastel number 9 sign which I hung with a blue ribbon. She also created a sign which I attached to my daughter’s easel and placemats for the table. She is amazing and you can find her on Etsy at CreatifDesigns4You.
Another decoration I put together for the party was a paintbrush garland. This is super cheap and easy to make. All I did was pick up a bunch of $1 paintbrushes at Home Depot and put a coat of paint on them and then strung some twine around them.
I love using crate tables on the floor. We just put a white table cloth over them and threw some pillows on the floor. The girls felt right at home hanging out while they enjoyed dinner refreshments.
For the table setting, I used watercolor paints on the rim of paper plates. Watercolor placeholders completed the tablesetting.
To match the art theme we made cupcakes that were placed on circular paint palettes. I filled each circle of the palette with a different color sprinkle and let the girls make their own cupcake creation.
For party favors, I made bookmarks out of paint chip cards. This was super easy. I just added initial stickers and some corresponding colored ribbon.
We also included a mini easel, canvas and small paint pots.
To sweeten it up I included a pastel palette sugar cookie and some candy dots. I attached a palette key chain to each bag.
The girls enjoyed some popcorn and watched movie before heading off to bed.
Addie had a blast celebrating her 9th Birthday with her friends!
