Friendsgiving-the celebration of Thanksgiving with your friends. This celebration isn’t just for adults. We used a day off from school to celebrate by inviting a couple of my daughter’s friends over for a fun day together.
Kid Friendly Thanksgiving Lunch
I wanted to serve kid friendly fare so I whipped up a sure fire favorite with a seasonal twist. I simply cut out grilled cheese sandwiches with a turkey cookie cutter. Homemade tomato soup was served in cute pumpkin bowls from World Market.
Decorations
For the party table, I created a runner by sewing together a couple beautiful fall napkins. The colors of the table runner were easy to incorporate into the place settings by using the orange pumpkin bowls, mint colored plates and copper utensils.
I used a maple leaf punch found at Joanns and some fall construction paper to create the maple leaves which I attached to the water glasses.
To keep the kids warm and cozy, I made a big beverage dispenser of Apple Cider garnished with apple slices.
Activities
I love having some fun crafts and activities to keep the party going. For Adeline’s Friendsgiving party, she wanted to bake pies. It was so much fun having the girls roll out their dough and create their own mini apple pies which they could take home with them.
I also created a dessert table with one large salted caramel apple pie which we could eat at the party and used lots of pumpkins and gourds along with some fall colored paper fans and garlands to decorate the table. These are simple to make with just some craft paper, tissue paper and string.
After making their own pies we decorated caramel apples. Gold rimmed baskets from Target were perfect to fill with different types of toppings. Instead of the typical caramel apple stick, I used wooden fans sticks stamped with the word Thankful.
For another activity I thought it would be fun to make pumpkin flower arrangements. I purchased a bunch of sugar pie pumpkins at the grocery store and stopped by the Flower Market to pick up an assortment of beautiful flowers. The morning of the party I hollowed out the pumpkins and dropped in little canning jars. The girls had so much fun putting together their own pumpkin flower arrangements.
I had an extra pumpkin so I made one too. I think this will looks great for my Thanksgiving table this year.
For the final activity I thought it would be fun to create a lasting keepsake. The girls painted their palms and fingers to make handprint turkeys. These are so fun and easy and parents love to see their little one hands for years to come.
I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving with friends and family!
