I have always loved Valentine’s Day. I just love everything about it, and anything heart shaped. As soon as the New Year arrives, I excitedly unpack all of my Valentine’s decorations. I also love baking with my daughter. So, to get you in the mood for the upcoming day, I thought I would share a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Cookie Decorating Party.
Because baking can sometimes be a bit messy, I made simple Valentine’s Day aprons for my daughter and her friend. To put these together I used a white apron and ribbon from Joann’s Craft Store with some pink felt hearts I found at Paper Source. To assemble the apron, I sewed the ribbon across the apron and attached the felt heart with a simple stitch. Super Easy!
Now we were ready to bake. I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe and a heart-shaped cookie cutter to create a whole bunch of delicious blank slates. I filled disposable icing bags with buttercream icing. I love to make my own but if you are in a hurry you can add food coloring to store bought frosting. I used a Wilton coupler in the icing bags so that the girls could change the tips as they decorated.
For their table, I made a heart table runner from some fabric I picked up at the craft store. Heart shaped cookie cutters made cute place cards with a name tag attached with velvet ribbon. These are great favors for the girls to take home along with their aprons.
In addition to the assortment of frosting, I placed fun sprinkles and candy toppings in heart shaped bowls. Edible pens are also a great decorating option. It was so much fun watching the girls’ creativity come to life.
After they were finished, we packaged their treats in premade gift boxes with little paper Valentine’s Day fans I found in the $1 bin at Target.
Because you can’t have a party without dessert, I had a dessert table set up for a sweet snack after they were done with their decorating. The red tulle table skirt is made by tying elastic around the edge of the table you wish to use. Then cut tulle in strips and tie them to the elastic. You can use this same technique to make a tulle skirt for your little one too.
To match the theme I made a chocolate strawberry cake. Yum! To make this cake, make your favorite chocolate cake recipe. Mine can be found here. Frost it with pink buttercream frosting and roll it in chocolate shavings or chocolate curls. Top it off with some strawberries dipped in strawberry glaze.
I also couldn’t resist some macaron pops. Lady Yum, in Kirkland has the best macarons. I just added a lollipop stick and tied a ribbon the end. A perfect treat for any Valentine’s Day Party.
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!
