We love an excuse to throw a party, wear costumes, and make fun recipes. Our kid friendly Mardi Gras party is something we look forward to celebrating each year! Especially the delicious recipes and mocktails. For a Carnival drink, I love making hurricanes. The hurricane drink was originally named after a lamp-shaped glass. The drink was served in these glasses at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans in the 1940s. I purchased mine at Cost Plus World Market. Typically made using rum, passion fruit juice and lime juice, these sweet drinks caught on and became a favorite Mardi Gras drink in the French Quarter. For our kids celebration we used a version sans alcohol using this simple recipe:
Virgin Hurricane Mocktails For Kids
2 ounces orange juice
2 ounces pineapple juice
1 ounce passion fruit juice
half a lime, juiced
Shake all ingredients together with ice. Strain into kid friendly hurricane glasses. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and lime wedges, enjoy!
