Turning 75 is a huge milestone, and I was honored to be asked to help make a birthday party extra special for two ladies who are best friends and celebrating turning 75 at the same time. I started by asking a little about these women, and I was told their favorite colors were pink and purple. I also found out that one of them really enjoys embroidery, and they both love butterflies. With this information to use as inspiration, I headed out to Joann’s and began browsing the aisles.
Create Dainty Place Settings
One of the first things I was drawn to were these little 4-inch embroidery hoops. I wanted to incorporate them somehow and had the idea to make place settings out of them using doilies decorated with each of the guest’s names in calligraphy along with some butterflies. I contacted my friend Lauren at Creatif Designs 4 You to help me with the graphic design. These were super cute, and the guests were able to take them home after the party.
Decorate With Flowers
Flowers always add a nice touch to parties, so I found pink and purple vases to go on the tables and filled them with pretty pink and white dahlias, white mini daisies and some greenery. Then, I put together the main floral arrangements using white hydrangeas and the rest of the dahlias.
Bake a Custom Cake
The cake was simple enough since both of the ladies love chocolate. I made a two layer chocolate cake with raspberry filling. Then, I topped it with a gum paste pink peony and some pink and purple butterflies. I also added a gold glittery 75 cake topper.
Set Out Delicious Macarons
The refreshment table needed a little something more so I went with macarons from my favorite shop, Lady Yum in downtown Kirkland. If you have never been there, it is a must stop shop on any trip to the Seattle area. Their macarons melt in your mouth, and they are absolutely beautiful to behold so they make a lovely display for your table. I placed them on a beautiful tray from World Market.
Finish With a Pop
Even grown-ups love takeaways when the party is over, so I ordered 75th chocolate pops that were wrapped in cellophane and tied with a pink bow. This was such a fun party to plan, and I hope the birthday girls enjoyed their special occasion just as much as I did putting it together.
