Most holidays have become better since having a child. Halloween is definitely one of those holidays. I wish I could save up all the excitement about dressing up and going trick or treating and savor it all year.
Since my daughter was born I have had so much fun coming up with coordinated family costumes. Those that know me, know I love themes which makes the costume options endless.
In case you need some inspiration, I thought I would share some of our past costumes. You can find almost anything you need on Amazon and Etsy.
Star Wars
Are you excited for the upcoming release of The Last Jedi? Well in our house we are counting down the days. This past year we spent over a month of Family Movie Nights watching the entire Star Wars Series. So this year there was no question that my daughter wanted to dress up as Princess Leia. Our dog, Barley, makes a great Chewbacca. I am going as R2D2. I found my R2D2 fleece hat on Etsy at Akiseo’s shop and the tank top at EmmaGraceCouture. I paired those with a pair of blue yoga leggings and silver running skirt.
For our pumpkins this year we had fun with Push-In Pumpkin Decorating Kits for Yoda and Darth Vader.

Scooby Doo
My daughter came down with the flu early in the school year and was home for a week recovering. During her recovery she watched endless episodes of Scooby Doo and became obsessed with the show. When Halloween rolled around she said she wanted to be Daphne and she wanted our dog to be Scooby. I found her dress on Etsy. She assigned me the part of Velma. I found an orange turtleneck on Amazon and used a red pleated skirt I already had in my closet. On Amazon, I also found glasses and orange knee high socks. My husband was Shaggy. The only things he needed for his costume were a green tee-shirt and a wig.

Despicable Me
This year my husband was in charge and decided my daughter should be a Minion. He spent hours in the garage creating her Minion costume out of fiberglass and I helped him with hot gluing the yellow felt on and sewing the overalls. It was easy enough for the rest of the family costumes. All I needed to complete my Lucy Wilde costume was a blue sheath dress, a polka dot scarf and sunglasses which I found on Amazon. My husband dressed up as Gru in a black sweater and black and gray striped scarf.
For our pumpkins, I made a Minion pumpkin with some acrylic paint, black ribbon and canning jar lids.
Elsa & Anna
The year the movie Frozen came out in theaters there was no question what theme my daughter wanted for our costumes. I found all our costumes on Etsy. I used a Frozen apron that was reversible but of course I was assigned to be Anna. Our dog Barley made the perfect Sven don’t you think?
The Wizard of Oz
When my daughter was in preschool she wanted to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I was able to pull a dress up Lion hood from our dress up bin for our dog, Barley.
I found carving templates online that were perfect for Dorothy, Toto and the Lion. For the Tin Man I sprayed a pumpkin silver. Then I simply hot glued a few felt pieces and a funnel on top.
