As you can probably tell I love autumn. The colors of the leaves are so beautiful. We thought it would be fun to put together some easy leaf themed crafts.
The first one is made using an embroidery hoop, burlap, felt and embroidery thread. These make great gift ideas for Grandmas or Teachers. My daughter loved picking out her colors and sewing them on. She also added some buttons and then simply tied a ribbon for hanging. Instructions are provided below.
Leaf Embroidery Hoop
Supplies:
- Wooden embroidery hoops
- Burlap
- Sharpie
- Scissors
- Felt
- Embroidery Thread and Needle
- Buttons
Directions:
- Print out different leaf templates onto white paper or cardstock. These are easy to find online.
- Cut each template out with scissors.
- Use the Sharpie and templates to trace leaves onto the felt.
- Cut out each leaf.
- Stretch a square of the burlap into an embroidery hoop.
- Arrange the leaf shape(s) as desired on the hoop.
- With embroidery floss and needle stitch the leaves.
- Embellish with buttons.
- Add ribbon to hang.
The second craft uses fall leaves we collected on a recent walk. Again this is really simple. Just use fabric paint to paint one side of the leaf and then press it onto a kitchen towel. We used a popsicle stick to go over the leaf to try to get a better imprint.
Leaf Kitchen Towel
Supplies:
- Fabric Paint
- Flour Sack Kitchen Towels
- Paint Brush
- Popsicle Stick
Directions:
- Using fabric paint, paint one side of a leaf making sure to get good coverage.
- Place the leaf on the kitchen towel and use a popsicle stick to help imprint the leaf.
- Gently lift the leaf and let paint dry.
Happy Crafting!
