We have a couple more weeks of summer vacation before school starts and my daughter and I have gotten our crafty on. One of our recent craft activities was making these cute marbled clay bowls. They are super easy to make.
Here are the simple directions:
Supplies:
- Polymer Clay
- Rolling pin
- Small oven safe glass bowl
- Knife
- Gold or Bronze Leafing Pen
Directions:
- Roll a large golf ball size piece of clay into log shapes.
- Twist all of the colors of clay together to make one large log.
- Fold it in half and twist the clay together again and roll into another log.
- Repeat this one more time, then roll your clay into a ball and roll it out with your rolling pin.
- Once you have a large circle rolled out, place your clay into you bowl and fit it down into the bowl.
- Use a knife to cut off the excess clay that comes out over the top of the bowl.
- Bake at 275 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Let cool completely.
- Remove it from the bowl and use the gold or bronze leafing pen to paint the top edge of the bowls.
Once you have your finished bowl you can use it as a candle by simply melting soy wax in a double boiler according to the package directions. Wrap a wick around a pencil and place it over the bowl. Once the wax is melted pour into the bowl and let cool.
Or another idea is to use it as a little planter. 2 inch plants fit perfectly.
Either way we think they look super cute.
They make perfect gifts for the holidays too! And we know it is never too early to start the handmade gift making.
