One of my favorite childhood memories is making Christmas Cookies with my Mom. Now that I am a mom myself it is something I look forward to each year. We love to use a variety of holiday cookie cutters but the Christmas Trees and the Snowflakes are always the favorites.
Below is the Sugar Cookie Recipe I got from my Mom. I hope you enjoy it.
Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 sticks of salted butter
1 ½ cup powdered sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract
1 batch buttercream frosting
Directions:
- Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract and egg in a large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Form dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before rolling.
- Preheat oven to 375 Degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheet.
- Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness, using additional flour as necessary to prevent sticking. Use cookie cutters to created desired shapes and carefully transfer with a cookie spatula to a nonstick baking sheet, placing cookies about ¾ inch apart.
- Bake one sheet at a time in the middle of the oven until puffy, about 7-8 minutes. Allow the cookies to rest for 2 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with buttercream frosting.
