Halloween is a big reason why I absolutely love the fall season. Each year, I have so much fun finding out what theme my daughter picks. This year, she is obsessed with Scooby Doo, and her red hair makes her a perfect Daphne. To round out the theme, she asked me to be Velma, her dad to be Shaggy and our dog Barley will be Scooby, of course. We had a blast getting our costumes together, and it was a great family bonding experience.
Treat Your Little Tricksters
For the past several years, we have gone to our neighbor’s house for a Halloween costume party followed by trick-or-treating. This year I wanted to provide some non-candy treats so I found some cute favor bags that I stuffed full of little trinkets such as a creepy tattoo, eraser, grow your own monster and a mini Rubik’s cube. I tied it all together with a cute little orange bow.
Create a Spooky Atmosphere
Halloween decorations are my favorite since it is so easy to create a grand effect. I started my decorating with a banner that I picked up along with some paper wheels and an adorable bat chandelier from Pottery Barn for Kids. In honor of Daphne’s favorite color, my daughter and I painted some pumpkins purple.
Then, I filled a caldron up with popcorn and made these awesome little candy corn ice cream cake pops along with a Kit Kat cake and vanilla cupcakes. You can never have too much dessert!
Play a Few Tricks of Your Own
Every Halloween party should have a game, so I put together a Pin the Heart on Ms. Bones station. I just took a huge poster board and painted it black. Then, I painted on a skeleton. I cut hearts out of red glittery sticky back paper, and blindfolded each guest before spinning them around and letting them try their aim. It was so much fun watching where all the hearts ended up.
When it comes to fun, Halloween offers the perfect opportunity to gather with your friends and neighbors and scare up some fun! The best part is that throwing a party before trick-or-treating gives everyone a chance to show off their costumes and get organized for a night full of thrills and chills.
