This year I was asked to plan a birthday party for Addie’s friend Oliver’s 7th birthday. Oliver loves sports, but he also want to add a twist to what is a pretty typical theme. He requested field day stations like the ones they have at school. I loved this idea and set to work putting it all together.
Welcome the Sports Stars
A warm welcome always sets the tone for a party, so I found a cute downloadable ball park sign on Etsy which I mounted on foam board. My husband helped me put it over the park entrance so everyone knew where to go.
As the kids arrived, they went to the Autograph Station I had set up. There, I had baseball jersey t-shirts that the kids decorated with red and blue Sharpies, depending upon which team they were on.
Play Ball!
Once the kids had their jerseys ready, it was time to have some fun! First up was a Football Throw, which my husband helped me make. We just wrapped blue and red duct tape around hula hoops for the kids to use as targets. Next, we also had Soccer Weave, Wiffle Ball Hit and Run the Bases stations for the kids to enjoy.
Fuel Up
Going to the ballgame always involves a trip to the Concession Stand so I set one up for refreshments. I served ball park food like peanuts, popcorn and hotdogs in retro foil bags.
The best food of all was donuts that were decorated like baseballs courtesy of Mighty O Donuts.
Since the birthday boy isn’t a huge fan of cake, we brought along ice cream sandwiches that we were able to keep frozen in a cooler of dry ice.
A Homerun Ending
After everyone had regained some energy, we had one last Field Day event planned to leave a lasting impression. Water Balloon Dodge Ball had everyone getting involved in the fun, and the kids truly had a blast.
And to end the party each guest went home with a Rawlings baseball, a little football, some trading cards, big league chew bubblegum and a whistle.
