I, like many of you, am in a book club. I look forward to getting together with this group of women every couple months. I can’t wait to hear what the next book will be and enjoy hearing what other thought of it, oh and of course there is always food and wine. So with summer coming to a close I thought it would be fun to get this group of ladies together for a Book Exchange Party.
It started with invitations that in themselves looked like library cards.
On them, I asked each guest to bring two new or used books to the party. I also included a library card form for guests to write about the book they chose, including not just the name and author, but what they liked about the books. You can find downloadable forms online or you can purchase them on Etsy.
Now, with the creative juices flowing freely (hopefully for my guests, too) I got on with my favorite part. The party favors! Everyone loves party treats, especially if chocolate is involved, but I also definitely like to make sure they match the theme of the party. Since chocolate and books go together so well, I definitely included some in my gift bags, along with other favors with book-lovers in mind: a mini book light, loose-leaf tea, honey and a cute bookmark. I used these cute Scout Finch bookmarks from one of my favorite Etsy Shops called CarrotTopPaperShop. (You can never have too many bookmarks).
I labeled each gift bag, “Book Bag” in calligraphy and hung a cute little book charm.
As far as decorations went, I hung book pages up with ribbons and had a book page table runner. I also tied ribbon around some old books to use as a centerpiece.
For food I served a cheese plate, salad and flat breads and some of my favorite summer wines. For dessert I made my lemon cake with a fondant book topper. I also had to serve macaroons from my favorite shop Lady Yum.
If you love books as much as me and my book club do, you won’t be surprised to hear that we all had a ton of fun. It was the kind of party where everyone has something to contribute and definitely required some pondering about what books to bring. But, then again, that was the best part: we all got to take two books home with us! I highly recommend it.
